Updated Championship Points

The race results have been updated again (hopefully for the final time) to take into account the points allocated to drivers who help out by officiating at race meetings. See the Pointscore document here if you wonder how or why this is done. This has had some impact on the previously posted Trophy placings.

Canberra karters In SA Titles

Well done to all Canberra Karters who attended the 2007 South Australian State Titles.

Joshua Buggy was the fastest qualifier in Midgets. From an impressive entry list of 25, Josh drove an impressive final to climb up to sixth position at the finish.

In the Junior National Light class, Warren White Jnr again took home another Blue plate from the SA titles. Proving that he is a force to be reckoned with in 2007

we hear that Shae Pluis also drove brilliantly in the final and finished 7th.

Ryan Reynolds contested two classes, Senior National Light & Clubman Light. We are still waiting on results, but we hear he had a great weekend.

We hope to see good things from all Canberra Racers competing in the 2008 season

Race results and Championship results

The Race results have now been processed up until the last meeting, ie October.

The Championship points have also been processed. They are posted in the Championship page.

You should now be able to see where you stand in the points score before the last meeting of the year on Sunday.

The results from April (the Goulburn meeting) have also been reprocessed to include Rotax Heavy and Light. Before anyone asks, the positions on the day include the positions of the competitors from other clubs, so if you came 5th out of 10 competitors, that's how your points are calculated, even if you might have been the 1st Canberra competitor to finish.

We are also currently missing the results for the JNL's in Round 2. They will be inserted as soon as we can retrieve them.

This is a first pass through the results for the championship calculation. There are guaranteed to be errors in it. All corrections, and (polite) questions should be addressed to peter at webtrax dot com dot au or call 0402 204 220.

Vale Ian Wimpenny.

We have been informed that Ian Wimpenny died on Sunday night after a relatively short illness.

Ian was a long-standing member of the club. One of nature's gentlemen, he was always willing to help in any way he could. He was happiest when racing regardless of the position he finished. Ian also acted as a volunteer ambulance officer at many V8 and Formula 1 race meetings so that he could be close to the action on the track.

His smiling face and eternal optimism will be missed at the track by those who knew him.

Our condolences and deepest sympathy go to his family, friends and colleagues.

There will be a funeral service held at the Norwood Park Chapel, 65 Sandford Street, Mitchell at 10:30am on Friday 21st September. There will be a get-together after the service at the Mawson Club - all welcome. The burial will be private, for family only.

Officials' Training this Saturday.

If you would like to help with the running of future kart meetings, you can attend the officials training this Saturday. Once you have done the training you can become a Steward or Assistant Clerk of Course and help to share the load. Note, if you are a parent of a child racing, you can perform these jobs while still helping your child race.

We currently have a very limited pool of officials to call on for running meetings which means the load falls on the same people every time. If one of them can't make it, we run the risk of not being able to run the meeting.. If you can add your name to the list it will make it much easier for us to ensure that all meetings can be run.

The training details are:
Date: Saturday 25 August
Venue: State Office 1st Floor, 222 Queen Street, (Entrance on King Street), St Marys
Commencing: 9.00am-2.45pm for Stewards and Cof C, 3.00pm-5.00pm OLT
Course Coordinator: Ron Harradine

To share transport to Sydney, please call Mick Guymer on 0411 647 272.

Apology.

To anyone who was inconvenienced by the closure of the track for practice on Friday.

The decision to allow Picton club to use the track on Thursday was made without the knowledge of the committee. The new committee had to abide by the decision. Unfortunately, AKA NSW then decided to apply a rule that we could not suspend our insurance for 1 day only, and hence the track could not be covered by AKA insurance on Friday.

So, our apologies to anyone concerned, but please don't blame the new committee for the decision. Cut us some slack and give us some time to make some real mistakes.

21/8/2007

No Practice this Friday 17th.

The track will be used by the Picton club this Thursday for a practice day.

As a result our AKA insurance is suspended through into Friday, so we will be unable to have the track open for practice on Friday.

15/8/2007

Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Thankyou to all those who turned up to the AGM on Wednesday. It was a great response and good to see multiple members putting their hands up for various positions. All positions were filled with relative ease compared to some of the 'teeth pulling' exercises we have had in past years.

The Executive Committee were elected as follows:

Contact details for all will be updated on the Contacts page in due course.

11/8/2007

Results from April, May and June meetings have been posted on the Results page. They were delayed pending the results of a Tribunal hearing, or that's my excuse anyway.

28/7/2007

Annual General Meeting (AGM). The Club Needs You...

The AGM will be held again in August. Further details will be posted when the location and time are fixed.

You need to consider whether you can help out by taking on a role on the Committee or one of the sub-committees. Descriptions of the roles and their responsibilities are covered on the Officials roles page. If you need more info feel free to contact any of the current position holders.

6 of the 7 current committee members will NOT be putting their names forward for the positions next year, so we have a large number of positions to fill.

If these positions are not filled, the club can not, and will not, continue to operate and there will be no racing or practice at the track until the committee positions are filled.

The club can only run if members volunteer to help run it, so please consider how you can help keep it running.

12/7/2007

Calendar changes.

The April race meeting will be a shared meeting at the Goulburn track. This allows us to change our allocated meeting for April to the meeting free month of June. We are requesting June 24th.

The meeting is on Sunday April 29th.

The Goulburn meeting is a shake-down meeting for the next round of the Premier State Cup to be held there in May, so there should be plenty of good competition to be had.

As this is a shared meeting it will count towards the Canberra Club Championship.

For those who haven't raced at Goulburn before, gearing is slightly higher than Canberra, so start by taking a couple of teeth off what you normally run here.

12/4/2007

OLT Officers: If you are a Senior driver who could help out on a non-race day to do OLTs it would be much appreciated by the few members who currently get called on.

Assistant Stewards: Parents of Midgets, Rookies and Juniors. If you do the Officials training you can put your name down as a steward on race days. This role can be done without impacting your support of your child.

If you can come, please contact Garry Compton by email on Garry dot Compton at grapevine dot net dot au. AKA NSW would like estimated numbers by this Friday 2nd March.
