TRACK STATUS

The revised environment report has been accepted by Environment ACT.

A formal request for us to re-open the kart track and hill climb has been made to Environment ACT. We hope to have a positive answer very soon.

TRACK STATUS

The track remains closed until the environmental engineer's report on Fairbairn Park has been finalised.

An initial report was produced last week, but further work has been requested by Environment ACT before a Remediation Plan can be agreed for the affected areas.

We are hopeful that the updated report will be completed this week. If this report confirms the initial report's findings it may open the way for the Kart track to be reopened while remediation occurs.

As soon as we have more information it will be posted here.

OFFICIALS' TRAINING - RESCHEDULED

We have been advised by AKA NSW that the officials' training due to be held this weekend 10th September has been cancelled.

We have been offered a change of time to this Wednesday 7th starting at 6PM at the same location. We will contact those who were planning on attending Saturday to see if they can still make it.

If Wed night is more convenient for you, and means that you can now attend, please contact Garry Compton (AH) on 6258 8588.

5/9/2005

OFFICIALS' TRAINING

There will be a training course for Stewards and Clerks of Course's held on Saturday 10th September.

We need more accredited officials to help out at race meetings.

Note, if you do the training it does not mean you have to officiate at every meeting thereafter. It just means you can be available when convenient.

So, if you are a driver and think you could officiate on one of your 'bye' race meeting days, come along to the training.

If you are a parent of a midget/junior/rookie, and do the training, you can put your name down as a steward while still looking after your child. You would only be called on if an incident occurred, and we will work around your child's races.

The training will be held at:
Airport Comfort Inn
57-73 Yass Road
Queanbeyan

Starting at 9am.

Please call Garry Compton (AH) on 6258 8588 if you can make it so that we can cater for you.

ACT TITLES MEETING

The ACT Titles meeting will be held this Sunday 21st August.

We will be running a Rotax Sportsman class for any Rotax drivers that want to build up their experience. It is non-championship class, same weight as Rotax Light, no trophies, just get out there and enjoy yourself without the worry of being lapped by the serious racers.

We will also need volunteers to help out with the canteen. As arranged at the AGM, we have someone to procure the supplies for the canteen, but we will need helpers behind the counter during the day.

WARNING - ROTAX ENGINE FREEZING

If you don't have a warm place to keep your Rotax, make sure you drain the coolant out between races.

Several members have had their coolant freeze during the last cold snap, cracking their engines.

Also, when warming up your engine on cold days, take your time, especially if you have the thermostat model, so that cold water does not hit the engine in a rush.

*** ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ***

The club AGM will be held on Wed 10th August.

The meeting will be held at the Canberra Club at 45 West Row Canberra City. Meeting starts at 7:30PM.

Your attendance is required. You can't complain about things not happening the way you want if you don't help to make it happen.

Feel free to nominate for any of the positions on the committee or sub-committees. All roles are described here.

One role we definitely need a replacement for is the canteen. Hamish and Beth Murray have done a great job running the canteen this year, but they won't be continuing with it. The canteen plays a large part in keeping the club financially viable, so we need your help, or ideas on how the canteen can be run.

ROTAX EXHAUST MODIFICATIONS

From the Executive Member Technology:
The practice of using tape or any other material to hold the noise isolating mat in place on the silence tube of the Rotax exhaust silencer is illegal as it is an addition and therefore fails Rule 28.02/6 and also 28.33/1.

SAPPHIRE COAST 'FROG HOLLOW' TRACK OPENING SOON!!!

Sapphire Coast have had approval from the local council to open their track as of 19th March. .

Some practice sessions have been held (travelling only in the 'right' direction) and best time so far in Rotax is 28.6 seconds for 537 metres. Clubman times were also very close to this.

The first race meeting is planned for the 14th/15th May.

As Sapphire Coast members have supported the Canberra club many times over the years, and the track looks great, a short trip down to Bega for the inaugural race meeting is highly recommended.

More info available on the club's website, SapphireCoastKarts.info.
